We went there by car and reserved a table beforehand. It was quite crowded inside but there were plenty of seats outside. However, it's scorching hot nowadays and the interior of the cafe was much cooler.

And props too! Featuring the I-literally-just-woke-up-20-mins-ago-so-I-cover-everything look.

They carry Dilmah tea here, ordered Chamomile (S$3) as I was feeling for something faintly sweet.

W39 starts serving lunch and mains at 12pm so we only ordered from the brunch menu (weekends and public holidays only, from 9am-3pm).





Hearty Breakfast (S$18) - sunny-side-ups, sauteed mushrooms, pork sausage, slices of bacon, toast.

It was fairly decent but I feel that the sauteed mushrooms could be of more taste. Unfortunately, it was not worth the S$18 price in my opinion.

Waffle Eggs Ben (S$16) -  waffle topped with shredded braised lamb shank, mushrooms, complete with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce!

Was excited over this as I'm still quite a stranger to savoury waffles. The combination was quite good and it did not disappoint. One of the eggs was slightly over-poached but the other one was perfect.
Would recommend to consume the dish as soon as possible as the waffle will get soggy overtime.



Chicken Shepherd's Pie (S$12) - W39's shepherd's pie comes in either chicken or beef. We opted for chicken as some of us don't consume beef.
It wasn't as hot as expected, instead it was quite warm. However, the cheese and the flavour of the chicken was good.

Salted Caramel Cake (S$6.80) - Chocolate sponge cake with salted caramel cream, topped with more chocolate.

I couldn't deny that chocolate goes well with salted caramel but if I were to finish the whole slice by myself it would have been too much cream for me. It's okay if you share it though.

Side note: CEREAL magazines has the aesthetics and W39 has a few copies there!

Another spontaneous trip after class to Nunsongyee at Bugis. We returned a few times after our first try some months back.

Nunsongyee is literally just opposite ToastBox and Starbucks, which are both located at the fountain area of Bugis Junction.

It is a 3-level shop lot but we usually just take the 2nd floor as it is self-service based. Bringing a tray up the third floor is kind of strenuous. 

And lots of 'what if's. Havn't had a spill before but who knows. Climbing up flights of stairs with two bowls of bingsu is not easy. You'd have to be very careful, or else.

Unfortunately, my phone camera doesn't work that well under certain lighting conditions so some of the photos might turn out not-so-satisfactory. Oh well.

You could actually go into the glass room to chill as there's man-made snow inside (just a little though).

You'll be given a buzzer after ordering and paying at the cashier. Just wait for it to, well, buzz.



Our first try was the Black Sesame Bingsu (S$18.90).
Red beans and a few pieces of rice cake, covered with black sesame.
Red beans weren't too sweet, black sesame smells and tastes good.

Note: As with every other type of powdered/flaky food, make sure you clean your teeth after eating or else people might be staring at you (or your teeth). It's difficult for them to look at somewhere else.

The monstrous Snow White Bingsu (S$ 18.90).

Definitely my favourite bingsu so far. Tried this out of curiosity but it turned out great. The combination was just.. sensational. Or maybe heavenly is the correct term.

Would love it even more if they have added more cheese. Sorry but us humans are greedy.

Cheesecake Bingsu (S$ 14.90) was recommended so we decided to try it too.
Biscuit bits, cheesecake chunks, and a vanilla ice-cream (plus a single berry) to top it off.

We were a little disappointed with this as the cheesecake was just OK and we were hoping to get a crumb base. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it anyway.

The bingsu at NunSongYee is soft and melts in your mouth. The milk used is of subtle taste and prevents the bingsu from getting too dry.

Definitely the best bingsu place in the area and one of the best I've tried.

I still find it hard to not spill milk/toppings while eating though.

As I was saying, it was hard to balance food on the tray while walking up the stairs (and single-handedly stabilise it while using the other hand to take a photo this as the lighting was good at the stairs).

Featuring the Garlic Cheese Toast (S$ 9.90). They were quite generous with the cheese. Tastes good too.

Note: I would recommend sharing as I usually couldn't finish a bowl by my own and two people might not finish a bowl either as the nauseousness will kick in sooner or later. 

Will update if we ever try other bingsu flavours!

Yay another blog post when I'm supposed to continue with my design project for school.

Today (yes, today, as in this afternoon), Anshi and I decided to challenge ourselves and find Buck Tile St. Cafe which is located somewhere in a residential area without much access to public transport (something you'd call ulu, a.k.a. I'm not even sure I'm walking in the correct way as there aren't many people around to ask for directions either).

Luckily, we are both staying in the west area (what can do, far from everything but still got nice food one). Tbh, it was only a few bus stops away from my place. It's just that I don't often get people to accompany me for cafe food. Sharing is better than having it alone.

It wasn't too hard to find though. Information on getting there is at the end of this post. Scroll through if you're only interested in that part. Heh.

Decided to go with the hot White Cherry (S$ 5.90) poison.
With cherry, at least your death is a sweet one. On the side note, I was impressed with the tea set and the fragrant tea itself. Fancy looking but serving its purpose at the same time. The candle did not go out even though we were there for about 2 hours.

Didn't notice that my phone was there in the background until I was going through the photos. Ohwell. Deal with it.



Buck Tile's Oreomisu In a Pot (S$ 5.90)
Long name, calling it Oreomisu for short. As the name suggests, it is Oreo-tiramisu in a flower pot. The shovel-spoon was a nice touch to the presentation.
Feels like we were shoving soil into our mouths as the colour and texture of Oreo biscuit crumbs are relatable to soil and dirt.
The first few mouths were OK but towards the end/bottom it was a little too moist and mushy for my taste. It wasn't bad but it wasn't on the top of my list either.



Next up, teaser of Buck Tile St. Cafe's must-order photogenic Blue Velvet Waffle (S$ 11.90).





The waffle comes with a single scoop of ice-cream. Felt that the coconut flavoured ice-cream would complement the white (blue) cocoa sauce. It did.
Natural blue food are rare to come by. Even blueberries are indigo instead of blue. Therefore, blue food, mostly dessert, has become a peculiar but interesting thing for me.

BUT THIS BLUE IS SO PRETTY OMG. Judging by the colour alone, it looks sweet and dreamy and cloudy (somehow).

After multiple placements and photoshoots, it was time to test whether the blue velvet waffle could live up to its name.
Waffle was crispy on the outside, soft on the insides. However, we spent a little too long on taking photos so it was not as hot as it was supposed to be. IT WAS WORTH IT THOUGH.
