The Lorien Legacies
18:48After the MPH Distributors Warehouse Sale yesterday, I picked out a book to read. And the lucky book was none other than The Rise of Nine from the Lorien Legacies, by Pittacus Lore.
I admit that I've learnt of the series from the movie I Am Number Four, which is quite a nice and awesome movie, if I may add. After watching the movie, I was determined to follow the story.
Since then, I've been keeping an eye out for the Lorien Legacies series.
Got The Power of Six last year, also from a MPH Distributors Warehouse Sale and The Rise of Nine yesterday.
The story line is quite unique. To me, that is.
Nothing would be better than Number Four's narration for the book I Am Number Four:
In the beginning they were a group of nine. Nine aliens who left their home planet of Lorien when it fell under attack by the evil Mogadorian. Nine aliens who scattered on Earth. Nine aliens who look like ordinary teenagers living ordinary lives, but who have extraordinary, paranormal skills. Nine aliens who might be sitting next to you now.
The Nine had to separate and go into hiding. The Mogadorian caught Number One in Malaysia, Number Two in England, and Number Three in Kenya. All of them were killed. John Smith, of Paradise, Ohio, is Number Four. He knows that he is next.
I AM NUMBER FOUR.
I AM NEXT.
And a narration from Number Seven for the book The Power of Six:
I’ve seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened in Ohio. John Smith, out there, on the run. To the world, he’s a mystery. But to me . . . he’s one of us.
Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I know? There are six of us left. We’re hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we’ll be equipped to fight. Is John Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I’ve been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong enough to bring the six of us together?
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio—and failed.
I am Number Seven. One of six still alive.
And I’m ready to fight.
The newest addition to the series, The Rise of Nine, included a short narration from Number Six:
Until the day I met John Smith, Number Four, I’d been on the run alone, hiding and fighting to stay alive.
Together, we are much more powerful. But it could only last so long before we had to separate to find the others. . . .
I went to Spain to find Seven, and I found even more, including a tenth member of the Garde who escaped from Lorien alive. Ella is younger than the rest of us, but just as brave. Now we’re looking for the others—including John.
But so are they.
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They caught me in New York—but I escaped.
I am Number Six.
They want to finish what they started.
But they’ll have to fight us first.
I finished The Rise of Nine and it was quite an awesome book. Yes, I wasn't in the mood to listen to class today and I wanted to get to the end of the book. I'm even desperate enough to skip lunch for it.
In short, (without spoiling the story) the Lorien Legacies series is about how nine aliens with super powers and their guardians who fled from their planet after it was being attacked by Magdorians, another species of aliens which are evil. They were being hunt down, in the correct sequence. They have to be killed in order, and so, the numbers. Could they survive and save the Earth from being destroyed by the Magdorians too?
And also, the reference to Malaysia. I don't know why but I felt a pang of happiness when I saw the word "Malaysia" on the books. Patriot much?
As to the author, here's what is being written about Pittacus Lore:
Pittacus Lore is Lorien’s ruling Elder. He had been on Earth preparing for the war that will decide Earth’s fate. His whereabouts are unknown.
Actually, Pittacus Lore is a pseudonym for James Frey and Jobie Hughes. Jobie Hughes stepped out after The Power of Six was released. So, I guess the writer of The Rise of Nine must be James Frey himself. Anyway, James Frey. It was said that he spent some time in rehab. But, who cares? As long as his books were as great as those in the Lorien Legacies, I would still read them.
There would probably be another book to the series and I can't wait to get my hands off them. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be released soon, since the release date for The Rise of Nine was 21 August 2012..
The Search for Sam would be out somewhere around Christmastime this year.

Oh well, guess I'll have to entertain myself with other books before that.
