I got stood up by a friend and was (sort of) stranded in Westgate. I braved myself and uttered the three words that I have not said in a while..

"Table for one."

To be honest, eating alone is boring but what choices do I have? I was delighted when I found out that they have an all-weekday promotion set for students and senior citizens (60 and above).

I've been a fan of Miam Miam's French Toast for quite some time, even when back in Malaysia before it was re-branded Franco. It seemed like a good idea to order some french toast together with a pasta student set. So I did.

Miam Miam specialises in French-Japanese cuisine and they have fusion dishes that are one-of-a-kind.

I havn't heard of Saisaki until my godmother said that we will be having dinner there to celebrate her birthday... and the next day I saw an article on Saisaki on the newspaper. I've, however, heard of Shogun and then found out that the latter is created after the successful launch of Saisaki. Saisaki is located at the Wisma UOA 2 (click into the link to view the operation hours and the address).

Since it's my godmother's birthday (OK. actually a day after her birthday) we have a birthday promotion, which is a 3+1 package.. meaning that the birthday boy/girl/lady/gentleman/whatever has to be accompanied by 3 paying guests.

Although it's my first time having a Japanese buffet, I have to agree that it was quite good and affordable. Refer to the price rates here. Since it was a Monday night, each adult is about RM60. I had to say that there are a lot of choices and variety.

You can get sushi, sashimi, rolls, udon, chawanmushi and even soft-shelled crabs and mussels!

You can also find stuff that you don't normally get to see in a typical Japanese restaurant, like fried salmon skin (which tastes delicious by the way), buddha jump over the wall (which I still think is a weird name.. OK, I should probably cut down these monologues) and even "lala" (clams). My mom and sis love that, even though they just had some the night before!

There wasn't much to complain about but still, the chawanmushi is pretty much tasteless as opposed to the salty miso soup. I tried mixing those two together but it didn't work out well. *sigh* As to the others, I don't think I found any faults in them.

Usually, I'll just take a california roll, a mango roll or a spider roll but I was a little overwhelmed by the different kinds of maki (rolls) there. Well, there's a first to everything, right?

-a little of everything- I didn't mean it literally if you're wondering.

As for dessert, there are cakes, tarts, parfaits and ice-cream to choose from. I just had the honeydew ice-cream because I was a little tight at the waist then. Buffets make me so out of control. Darnit.

Check out Saisaki's website and Facebook page for more updates!

Sorry I skipped so many days since the last post. Was on a vacation in snorkeling heaven. Where is it you ask? Stay tuned to find out. mwahahaha XD

So, mom decided to go to Paradigm Mall to watch a boxing event and a movie after. After some walking about with my bro and sis, we decided to go for Suki-Ya. It's is our first time there as the other Suki-Ya we went to is at Pavilion.

It's pretty much a eat-as-much-as-you-can Japanese steamboat buffet which costs you about RM29.80 for lunch and RM39.80 for dinner. As for children below 12, they get 50% off. Of course, the grace period is 2 hours, which means your time limit is 2 hours.
Mom wasn't hungry so it was just me and my siblings. Well, they're both below 12 so.. it wasn't TOO expensive. A little maybe? They don't eat much though.

The choices are a bit limited but still, there are carrots, noodles, mushrooms, raddish, udon, seafood tofu, cheese sausages and tofu, glass noodles and so on. It's basically what you can find in a steamboat dinner.

There are also sushi available at the counter. They come and go fast, mind you.

On my first round.

There are four soup bases: miso, kimuchi, sukiyaki and shabu-shabu. We took sukiyaki and kimuchi, which is the spicy one. Sukiyaki is the more famous soup base. I was craving for a little spiciness, hence the kimuchi base. You'll be able to choose two soup bases for each pot.
Miso is a like the normal miso soup and shabu-shabu is more like clear soup. The best is still sukiyaki.

Also, you can also get free flow meat. Choose from either chicken, beef or mutton. You'll get to order two different meats and ask the waiters for more later on. Hot or iced green tea is also free flow.

The thinly sliced meat is quite good as it is pretty much soft and scrumptious.
For those who don't know how to differentiate between raw and cooked meat.. After the meat is cooked, it'll turn into another shade of colour so once you see the colour has changed, it is ready to be eaten. By the way, beef cooks faster than chicken and mutton.

At Suki-Ya, they allow you to mix your own sauces. There are a variety of ingredients for you to make them.  They also have premixed sauces if you are lazy (like me).
If you want to dip the meat into a raw egg, feel welcomed to do so. The beaten raw egg helps reduce the heat and also adds an egg-ish taste. Well, how should I put it? .-. not salty, not sweet, not tasteless? Hmm, what about something like breaded chicken?

Anyway, a small reminder.. there's a H7N9 virus going about recently so to be on the safe side, stay away from raw eggs. You can cook it for a while before making it into a dip.

Le me thinking about the laws of the universe and life.. uh, not.

Mom and siblings.

Ice-cream for dessert! Enthusiastic like a little 4-year-old, I took quite a lot of ice-cream but was it was VERY disappointing. The green tea ice-cream doesnt have much green tea taste and neither did the yam ice-cream.
Oh well, my mistake. Lesson learnt.

If you're wondering about the ambiance there, they have good service and nice seats. The waiters and waitresses are OK, perhaps a little deaf to my words? But still, they'll help you with your meal if you asked for them.
Last but not least, if you want to make a reservation, visit Suki-Ya's official site for the branch's phone number.

So guess that's all for now. See you guys soon!

MJ doesn't stand for Michael Jackson in this case. It stands for Malaysia-Japan. To be precise, it's an exchange program between my school and Japan's Hakuo High School which took place in 31 October this year. Same day as Halloween. :D

Yes, I was a little nervous because I don't speak Japanese well and I was wondering what my partner would look like.

Applaud applaud. Why? Because the visitors are here already. Oh gosh, did I mention that I was nervous? Turned out that I did.

After everyone was settled down, it turned out to be something like this. You might spot me somewhere in the crowd if you have keen eyes. Or you happened to know where I sat.

-after speeches and after both schools exchanged souvenirs-

Our school's brass band performed for the guests. Nice batik clothes and what a wonderful performance.

Next up, Japanese drums performance from Hakuo High School. I was expecting guys to go up but it turned out to be an all-girls performance. I was a little shocked but they played quite well too.

Now a look at my partner, Shiori-san ("-san" is pretty much a more formal way to address someone in Japanese). She's a beauty and has a dollish face but unfortunately, she's a shy girl. She's shy, I'm shy, we're both shy. :(
She doesn't speak much English, I don't speak much Japanese. Kind of disastrous, if you ask me.

But I still managed to get her into a little polite conversation. Her hobbies, the weather in Malaysia.. OK, I just managed to get her to talk a little. She'll just smile and nod off stuff she doesn't understand. ._.
You have to admit, she's kind of elegant and more like the classy type. Drawing, painting, music? Definitely.
Phyn Ping said Shiori-san and I are of the different kind, meaning I'm not elegant and stuff. Darnit.

Anyway, she likes the 24 drums. She spent more than 10 minutes with the drums. Well, I like drums too. Therefore, ta-da! We have a common interest. Haha. She plays piano too. Voila, another common interest! I'm serious. *serious face on*

At the diabolo booth. Forgotten to turn the flash off and this is the result of it.

We had booths from both our school and Hakuo High School in the Kong Chen Hall.

And lunch at the school canteen. We shared a table with some of my classmates and their partners. You can't find me in this picture anyway. I can just see part of my head. Haha. No comment on the food. Edible is enough. :D

Batik painting. It was quite awesome. Students and teachers from both schools helped complete it.

Time for a group photo and a final goodbye. :')
This is not exactly all of us. We were divided into three main groups. There were 200+ students from Japan in total. When's our turn? I havn't been to Japan :D

Shiori-san said that she would e-mail me but I havn't received any so far. I asked her for her email but she said that she'd forgotten it. :(

Shiori-san LOVES rabbits. That's why I purposely attached a sticker of a rabbit on the note I gave her.
"Rabbits are cute" Well, I couldn't find anything else to write..

This is not a goodie bag. I repeat, THIS IS NOT A GOODIE BAG. These are my gifts for Shiori-san: A rabbit figurine, a notebook and some sweets.

In return, I got 2 phone decorations. A Hello Kitty with Mount Fuji and a Rilakkuma with a.. bowl of ramen? I have to admit that they are pretty cute. x)

A note from her. :3
Cute rabbit. Glad she had fun. I was afraid that she'd be bored or something. I was friendly, but I didn't know what to say to her most of the time we spent that day. Guess we were just being politely friendly? If we meet again, I seriously would just give her a hug, there and then. :D

*most of the photos from my school's FB page, mainly those which doesn't feature Shiori and the presents. x)
